Itinerary

Day 1DISCOVER MACHU PICCHU IN ONE DAY

Sacred Valley Day Trip

Early in the morning we’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco’s historic center at 6:30 AM. Then we intend to travel northwest to the Andean village of Chinchero.

This scenic drive lasts around 45 minutes. So we’ll enjoy views of great mountains and green valleys.

At Chinchero, we’ll explore the archaeological site and colonial church. Later we’ll visit a local textile workshop to learn traditional dyeing and weaving techniques. Where women in colorful clothing will demonstrate how they craft alpaca wool into vibrant textiles.

Maras Salt Mines – Moray Circular Terraces

We will continue to Maras by vehicle. This small town is famous for its ancient salt evaporation ponds. Over 3,000 salt pools cover the mountainside and shine under the sun. We’ll explore the site and learn about salt harvesting traditions.

Next, we will visit the Moray Agricultural testing grounds. We will see concentric circular terraces used by the Incas. These terraces created microclimates to test crops at different temperatures.

Our guide will explain the site’s historical and agricultural significance.

Lunch in Urubamba

Around mid morning we’ll head to Urubamba, located in the Sacred Valley’s heart. Farmers grow corn, fruit trees, and quinoa in this fertile valley. Here we’ll enjoy a buffet lunch in a local restaurant with Andean flavors (Optional).

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site

After lunch, we will drive to Ollantaytambo, an Inca town still inhabited today. We will explore the impressive archaeological complex and terraces. The Incas transported massive stone blocks from nearby quarries using advanced engineering techniques. We’ll climb the stone steps to the Sun Temple for panoramic views.

Pisac Archaeological Site and Market – Return to Cusco

We will continue our journey to Pisac, located on a mountain ridge. The Pisac ruins feature Inca tombs, ceremonial baths, and agricultural terraces. We will hike a short trail to explore the vast complex and its temples. We will also visit the Pisac handicraft market in the town below.

After exploring Pisac, we will return to Cusco. We will drop you off at Plaza Regocijo around 6:30 PM. You may relax or continue exploring Cusco’s vibrant evening life.
