After about 3:30 hours, we will reach the trailhead near Palccoyo. At this point, we will be at 4,800 meters (15,748 feet) above sea level. The air will feel fresh and cool in the early morning. We might spot alpacas and llamas grazing freely in open fields.

We will begin our gentle hike toward the rainbow mountains. The trail will stretch about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) each way. The terrain will be mostly flat with gradual ascents. We will follow a well-marked path that offers constant views of layered red, green, and gold mountains.

We may stop often to take photos and catch our breath. At the viewpoint, we will enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. We could see up to three rainbow mountains lined across the Andes. On clear days, we will also see the Ausangate Glacier in the distance.
